On-site Evaluation Teams
The program requesting certification is responsible for recruiting and recommending on-site evaluation team members. Recommendations must be submitted with your application for certification. The ETL will review your recommendations and make the final decision.
On-site evaluation team members must belong to one of these groups:
- practicing auto technicians
- service managers
- shop owners from businesses in the area served by the program
- for initial certification, one team member may be an instructor from another school district/system. An automobile instructor from another school district/system must have a minimum of seven years experience, which must include three or more years full-time experience as an automobile technician and three or more years of post high school training.
All members must have:
- a high school diploma or equivalent (industry or military training may qualify)
- at least 7 years full-time experience as a general auto tech
- ASE certification is recommended but not required
For initial certification, the evaluation team is composed of four individuals: the ETL and three team members. Two members must be from the automotive industry (one from a dealership and one from an independent repair facility). The third member may be from a dealership, independent repair facility or auto training program.
For recertification, the team is composed of three members: the ETL and two team members. One must be from a dealership and one must be from an independent repair facility.
Each program requesting initial certification or recertification must submit their choices for evaluation team members on the On-Site Evaluation Team Member List, including an alternate team member in the event that one of the team members is unable to conduct the on-site evaluation. The alternate team member must be from either a dealership or from an independent repair facility.
Team members must not be Advisory Committee members, former instructors, or graduates of the program within the past ten years.
