Standard 4.2: Budget

An adequate annual budget should be developed, allocated, and used for the operation of the program.

Requirements:

  1. Rate the development of an annual budget for program operation.
  2. Rate the Advisory Committee input in reviewing budgeted funds allocated to and used by the program.
  3. Rate the funding in terms of being adequate for program operation.

Recommended Documentation:

  • Explain the process used to develop the annual budget and who is involved.
  • Provide documentation, such as meeting minutes, to show that the budget was discussed with the Advisory Committee, and/or summary reports regarding meetings with the schools administration when budget allocations were discussed, based on program needs or student load.
  • Use the Advisory Committee minutes to show how program modifications and changes have been made to provide an adequate learning environment.

Notes:

  • It is important that all parties involved with the program have an opportunity to make recommendations in how the budget is determined. It is not necessary, however, to show the Evaluation Team the actual budget dollars.
  • The Advisory Committee is made up of the business community, and they are all tax payers to the school system. It is important that they have input into how their money is being spent.
  • A review of the minutes and a visual inspection of the facility by the site visit team will allow them to easily determine if the program has adequate funding.
